| YEAH!!!!  The meteor hammer (or liu xing chui, in its original Mandarin Chinese)--an old Chinese flail-type weapon similar to such Oriental weapons as the Japanese johyo (or rope dart), the manriki and the kusarigama--comes in single-headed and double-headed varieties, with the head(s) adjoined to a length of rope or chain typically 10 feet or more in length. Like most flail weapons, it uses centripetal force to deliver crushing blows with minimal effort; the meteor hammer itself received its name when it was said to strike as hard and as swiftly as a meteor. But with practice, the meteor hammer can also be used in a variety of attacks and defenses, including attacks to trip, entangle or disarm one's opponent.   Flail weapons are traditionally less popular than most other types of melee weapons due to their difficulty to wield effectively and their considerable potential to accidentally strike and harm their own wielders (though not without the benefits of the aforementioned powerful blows and snares as well as the portability and concealability lent by their flexible designs). And though the meteor hammer has been a rare and obscure weapon ever since its creation, it did receive a helpful shot of public exposure and renown as Gogo Yubari's weapon of choice in Kill Bill, Vol. 1. |
