| I remember those wonderful Montana winters. Like one year the the temp was -10 to -20F for about a month, the temp would rise up to 30F. Still below freezing but it almost felt like summer.
My favorite winter story is about the time I first came home on leave from Montana. When I left Montana the temp was about -10 to 0 degrees and I was dressed warmly in my thick winter coat with long johns under my pants. When I arrived at my home on the east coast it was 55 degrees and I began to sweating in my warm clothes. I decided to change at the airport into a shorts and T-shirt and the people in their thick winter coats were looking at me like I was crazy. | |

| Verily, Tiger's tale dost not begin with yon 'V'. (Lucky you two. I still remember that one mid-December day in 1994 when it was -50° or -60° F with the wind chill, the snow was almost up to our knees and the 03 localizer's distribution unit (which stood less than a foot off the ground) decided to take a dump on us, so Burt, Ruhle and I got to squat out there in the snow and work on that stupid box of junk until it came back online. After the first ten minutes or so, even with me wearing fiberglass-toed combat boots and three pairs of winterweight socks, it still felt like I was going to lose some toes to frostbite. The three of us ended up working on the DU Round Robin style: one guy runs out of the warm and toasty truck, tinkers with the DU for about five minutes, runs back to the truck and tells the other two airmen what he did. Airman #2 runs out of the truck, does the same thing, runs back and tells the others what he did. Airman #3 does the same thing. Back to Airman #1. Then Airman #2.... At least I got to keep all my toes that way. And the friggin' KC-135 pilots probably never had the dimmest idea what we three brave and hardy MetNav grunts went through so that they could land their very expensive Stratotankers without plowing the snow on either side of the runway. So I'll hear no more of your MWRS and SP tales of woe in Montana's winters, for surely I have all y'all beat. ) | |

| When I was living at wonderful Malmstrom AFB MT an idea occured to me. You all know those signes right outside of military bases that they leave messages on. When there was snow on the ground I always wanted to make that sign read "BEHOLD HELL HATH FROZEN OVER" | |
