Damn...we had a big, huge wedding party at the Grand Lodge last night, and I spent half the night cleaning up and the other half fiddling with the electronics (and failing to get the TV to work), handling a late check-in and gabbing with Dub the security guard. At least that punk at the front gate only called once, probably because I told him I'd be sending Dub along to see if he needed any assistance.
Dub's there with me Friday and Saturday nights now, so I can't really get all that much done (unless it's strictly work-related, of course). But he's off tonight, so I'll have the place all to myself again. And the next two days after that are my days off. And then I can finally get back here, vegetate and see how many of these rumors (true rumors mixed with half-truths, red herrings, obsolete rumors and absolute fakes and falsehoods, naturally*) at the Bard and Fox I can confuse Karnoz with.
Corwin and Sylvea are welcome to join us, as always. *ahem...*
So even though last night sucked, this night's looking pretty good. And how was your weekend, eh?

ARRRRRGH!!!
*insert Very Angry emoticon here*
I was working on Karnoz's post (and was just getting to the part about the wood elf bard's song and composing lyrics for it while describing more of the people around the tavern), and you know how Internet Explorer has all those tabs for various windows? I was doing what I usually do with long posts; I had one tab open with GD's post for me to consult, the second tab was me editing my post, the third tab had my Gametable pic of the inn's interior displayed, the fourth tab had a map of the continent (helpful for coming up with NPC races and nationalities on the fly) and the fifth tab was opened to Thesaurus.com and Dictionary.com (helpful for coming up with all that colorful dialogue and narration).
So I reached up to click the Thesaurus and look up a few synonyms for "walk" (since the bard could certainly find a more interesting way of approaching Karnoz), but that big Illusion Vale header was right underneath that tab, and in my haste I missed the tab and clicked the header instead. And the header has a hyperlink to the main index of the forums. So I went to the main index. And when I Backed to the forum's Edit box, all my work was gone.
ARRRRRGH!!!
Why can't phpBB come up with a forum that doesn't wipe out your text editing when you do that? You don't lose your text when you do that on the CoH Guru forums, IIRC. Same with The Way Inn forums.
Goddammit! I'd be cussing my fool head off if I was the type to do that.
Okay, new approach to making this post and any other big posts on this forum: I'm just going to Send and post my progress everytime I think about switching tabs or leaving the computer, no matter how incomplete the post is. I'll throw up a heads-up here when I'm done. And if you don't see the little lime-colored prompt at the end of the post ("Karnoz >" or whoever's post it is), I'm not done yet. There. That measure should stop my work from disappearing into the ether whenever accidents like this rear their ugly head....
Damn it, that just totally ruined my day. Now I have to start over. I remember a lot of what I put into this window over the past X many days, but damn damn damn it to Hell.
I need to get out for a while, cool my head off and grab something for dinner. I'll be back to start all over again later.
Damn it.

If it helps.....
When I have a large post, I usually write it out on a word doc, save it to my desktop, tweak it, spell check it and then C and P it into the window when it's time to post.
Regardless of what happens, I still have the original post.

I've actually tried the Word/Notepad Copy-Paste approach before, but I never much cared for it. I like to use those BBCode commands a lot (as y'all probably know by now), and Word, Wordpad and Notepad don't do BBCode...which means I have to go through each post twice, once to type it out and another to go back and add all the BBCode.
So I'd just as soon post my progress in bite-sized pieces; that approach may be a tad confusing for onlookers (like you three or so...), but it has the advantages of 1) allowing me to add BBCode as I go, and 2) allowing me to work from multiple computers, in case I have to go to work--or come home--before my post is finished.
But tonight's looking promising for me actually getting Karnoz back in action. Last night was the local high school's prom, the subsequent clean-up and Dub the guard, but tonight's me all by my lonesome and left to my own devices. Then come two days off. Let's hope that I can finally get this all sussed out and back on track, shall we?

If you're so used to using the BB code, just use HTML codes in word and you'll have the same results when you paste into a text window here.
There's not anything I can do about the keeping text thing in the edit window unfortunately. It's just something that Forumotion hasn't implemented.
But even so... you could always just write it out and every ten or twenty minutes or so you could paste it into a Word program. Doing it backwards works too.

That would work too. I wonder if it's worth getting an egg timer just for that purpose.
I'm glad to see you posting again, though. I was getting more than a little worried about you, and starting to wonder if I had somehow failed to keep you interested or entertained. How have you been?
Also, I just picked up a 1.5 Terabyte external hard drive! It set me back about $130 ($140 after tax), and I can't wait to get on with backing up my internal hard drives; the last big thunderstorm that blew through here gave me a heart attack when my computer wouldn't reboot. Three restarts later, my computer finally came back to life. Heart attack averted. But man, I was honestly afraid that the lightning had fried my computer.
I might even use the extra space to reinstall some of my old "rainy day" games, like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and Age of Pirates: Carribean Tales. Heck, I might even reinstall my old floppy drive and see about preserving Darklands. Now that was a great RPG.
Also, my quest for more Castlevania music continues. I wasn't aware that there was any Castlevania among the five-thousand sequels to Dance Dance Revolution, but apparently there are a few tunes and medleys, including this medley of songs from Haunted Castle (aka. Akumajo Dracula), a medley of which includes the dark reprise of the Wedding March, Cross Your Heart (Stage 1's theme), Bloody Tears (Stage 3's theme and a tune in just about every Castlevania game) and the Game Over/Attract Mode theme.
(The medley maker even threw Serena's scream in there! Nice touch. )
Okay, I'm setting up my new external hard drive now. I figure it'll take most of the night to back up my internal drives, but I'll be at work so I won't care. And if the guests and Dub the Guard can just leave me alone all night, I'd like to finish Karnoz's update and get on Sylvea's update as well. Toodles!

More random thoughts:
1) In the HoA campaign here, Wraith plays a character who has a ghoul as a henchman...henchwoman...henchghoulthing.
2) Wraith is Australian.
3) In the now classic video game Darkstalkers, you can go to Australia and fight Lord Raptor (aka. Zabel Zarock, if you're Japanese), who is a ghoul.
Coincidence?

Thanks to me using Wraith's "reverse .doc save" method, I am almost finished with Karnoz's post! *pant pant pant*
I probably would have been done today, but I ate something bad yesterday evening and basically had to empty my entire gastrointestinal system, down a friggin' gallon of Pepto and go to bed. And now I have to drink two glasses of water with two aspirins and go to bed because Texas summers are horrid, and I was out planting a bunch of new flowers, raking out the henhouse, cleaning out the guest cabin in expectation of our routine guest Susan's monthly First Monday visit and otherwise dehydrating myself severely. Lo siento.
Also, one of my dumb chickens had none too recently buried her egg in the hay I was raking out, and the egg was thoroughly rotten enough to POP behind me. And it smelled putrid as hell. I just thought I'd toss that in for some reason.
But dagnabbit, at least Karnoz is almost done. I finally thought up some decent lyrics for that bard's song, too.
Also, let us welcome Jazman into the fold. Everyone, please converge on our new friend and give your most heartfelt attempts to corrupt him into joining the Dark Side. I'll commence the festivities by unleashing the ghouls.
And it looks like you guys dumped a truckload of PMs on me while I was AFK. I guess I can sift through them all before I drink myself unconscious for a few hours....

Neither can I. And I can't wait to finish Karnoz's mile-long post in a second window open on my Desktop. If it looks like I've been on this forum continually over the past weel or so...well, in a way, I have. I've just been AFK here and there, that's all.
Poor GD over there...I swear, he might have to flip open a new notepad and take some notes after my update for Karnoz finally gets Sent. "Okay...Three Widows Marsh = Very Bad Place, possibly haunted. Not sure where Saturninity Hill is, but it sounds pretty bad too. Lost city of Al'Arvoqas returned in a sandstorm, shipwreck moaning in the ice floes north of Brustagg, huge uncut ruby bigger than a man's chest unearthed in Lebeq Prime and sent to the sultan...hmm. How does Karnoz's itinerary look for the next three in-game months?"

Have a look around too please. Some things are going to change and some things will be updated shortly - but whet your appetite for something other than DnD
And Ghouls are an import to Australia - Mate - just like everything else.

You lie! The rest of the world knows about Australia's "secret" army of ghouls. But your plans to kick off Doomsday by unleashing them on an unsuspecting planet will fail, because Europe has the Belmont Clan! Ha ha ha!
Also, would "everything else" include kangaroos and Tasmanian devils? Because my World Book Encyclopedia says otherwise.

You know, I have honestly not seen either Iron Man movie yet. I imagine that I'll have to see the first Iron Man before I see the sequel, even though Whiplash looks like a snazzier supervillain than Ironmonger does. Hmm.
Wraith wrote:

I've been slacking on the Metal Tune of the Week. Sorry. I'll get on it.
But I just woke up after a ten-hour "power nap" and I feel kosher again, I just collected the eggs from the henhouse (with Moochie screaming at me because she's a nest-hogging little harlot who resents my presence for whatever reason), I just whipped up some breakfast and my AVG Anti-Virus wants me to restart my computer now. Good thing I've been saving Karnoz's progress.
I also had an unusually vivid dream last night, where it was GD and me back at that familiar ugly yet oh so beloved green pool table in the second-story day room back at our barracks in the Air Force--no sign of Screech, Robert, Kevin, Lenny or Fred, though--and for some reason he was playing a dwarf warrior of some sort (probably a Fighter; dwarves are big on the Fighter class) storming some sorceress' tower, and I was having a panicky fit because GD's dwarf was inside the tower, the tower was only half-finished and I was Dungeon-Mastering on the fly...a familiar emotional sensation to me, but one that I usually conceal well. Except for when GD's dwarf was preparing to cut some sorceress down at the knees, and I didn't even have her spell list prepared.
My brain's probably trying to tell me something. Like "Get on with the adventure, fool!" Or something. Hrrrm.
Also, I wonder if the Air Force still has that pool table. I should get a hold of somebody and offer to buy it from them. Sure I could find a place for it....
Okay, let me restart this computer before AVG screams at me again. I'll be right back.

Bah, yeh bloody racist! Dwarves are awesome. Especially when you don't play them to that insipid Scottish stereotype. Imagine a short, hulking Scandinavian with a fear-inducing name, bashing your nose in with a very large hammer while screaming profanities about your mother, forever....
