Well, you see, Mark David Chapman had a copy of The Catcher in the Rye in his pocket when he shot John Lennon. Billy Joel later wrote and performed his hit song "We Didn't Start the Fire" and he used "The Catcher in the Rye" in the lyrics, possibly as an oblique reference to the Lennon assassination. And every New Year's Eve, some DJ at some New Year party out there is playing "We Didn't Start the Fire" to send off the old year.
