| The cool lava looks a little bright to me... but that's just me.
Oh and gametable this week for me is out. Perhaps you three should continue on the adventure? I won't be able to make too many gametables, unless I can do them on saturday night. Which just happens to be tonight.
So I'll pop in again... some time later.
Sorry guys. | |

| Hmmm...I might have to work on that lava a bit more, then. Danke. Also, even though I probably have better things to do, I took a break from writing down notes for all of Corwin's trade transactions and hammering up a few more things for our Gametable goodness. Rest assured, SEAMUS, the end of the tunnel that is Corwin's brief days as a seafaring trader is in sight. Hang in there. Want some wishes? Run west into Lebeq Prime (or one of those other nice, sandy, quasi-Arabian or quasi-Persian or quasi-Turkish lands) and find one of these guys...the older, the better. Don't expect them to just hand over the goods, though; there's usually some test or quest involved. Ya gotta impress these hoary old otherworldly beings before they pony up for your little heart's desires, don'tcha know? | |

| Hellspawned outsiders native to the Abyss, demons--or Tanar'ri, as they refer to themselves and as other Outsiders refer to them--are extraplanar embodiments of chaos, wickedness and ruin. The only thing which can be predicted about demons is that they cannot truly be predicted, and while some demonic breeds are fearsome engines of destruction, others can be equally malevolent and ruinous through mastery of guile, subterfuge, temptation and manipulation; though fierce and powerful if cornered by blade or by spell, many demons greatly prefer to avoid battle, embrace subtler arts and make games of leading mortals down a dark path to despair, damnation or self-destruction. Some seasoned mages will go to great lengths to summon and bind demons to their service, but even when bound, demons are never to be considered completely safe, and they are never to be trusted. | |

It's the mariliths, isn't it? Yeah, six-armed half-serpent demon women always succeed in bringing the sexiness. You should see how many marilith pics on the internet feature topless mariliths without any strategically placed arms or swords to cover up the jumblies; I actually had to turn down a few of those, just because the three pics above were prettier (well, that second marilith--from a pic where she's trying to slice up Drizzt Do'Urden, no less--is less "pretty" and more "bad-ass"). Apparently mariliths are the new succubi. For that matter, why is it that I could scarcely manage to Google up any pictures of quasits or vrocks or glabrezu, yet I could find mariliths and succubi by the hundreds? On second thought, I'm pretty sure that we can all guess the answer to that one, right? Next up: Devils, where we'll see how many hits I get when I Google up "erinyes". Stay tuned.... | |

| Hailing from the Infernal plane Baator, devils (most of them from Infernal families known as Baatezu among planewalkers and outsiders) are the living embodiments of domination, tyranny, oppression and torment. Their Hell is governed by a rigid caste system in which authority derives not only from personal power but from political station. Contrary to what many mortals believe, devils and demons are not allies; rather, the two are bitter and grudge-bearing enemies who vehemently contend with each other as well as the benevolent outsiders for the destiny of the Prime Plane and all its inhabitants, and the enduring Blood War between the despotic Baator and the anarchic Tanar'ri stretches back farther than many of these Hellspawn can--or care to--remember. Devils are a bit more predictable than demons are, and any devil typically maintains a degree of honor and honesty in their work. Many a tragically mistaken infernalist or diabolomancer has concluded from this that devils can be bound to a mage's will by a variety of arcane and cosmological laws, never conceiving that, rather than being slaves to the forces of the Law, devils are instead masters and manipulators of it, and more than one wizard has had the tables turned on him when his oathbound devil finds and exploits a loophole in their Infernal contract. The summoner's fate is usually quite bleak after that; devils take malicious delight in enslaving those to whom they were once enslaved, and payback can indeed be Hell. And let me tell you: sometimes, I wish those pogs were larger, especially those normal-sized pogs for Medium-sized creatures. Because taking this much detail... ...and stuffing it into a 64x64-pixel square (which is an even less area after you omit the little gray ring and the four corners of the square outside it) is pretty bloody hard to do. As for those dark-angel-like erinyes, the D&D 3.X Monster Manual likens them to the devils' version of incubi and succubi in their description ("Hey, look at my boobies! Wanna nibble? Okay, now I get to make a depraved sinner out of you! Come on, it'll be fun!" Yeah, I don't think the succubi need any help with that game, considering that they pretty much wrote the book on it. I think that book's titled Kama Sutra or 120 Days of Sodom or something. Friggin' demonic harlots...). But, considering that devils tend to do more high-handed commanding than underhanded enticing ("Ask your insignificant questions, worm, and be quick about it!"), I prefer to hold the erinyes to their roles in classic Greek mythology (where they're better known by their less ancient Roman name, the Furies), where they function more as fallen angels of judgement, devils of vengeance and Chthonic tormentors. And apparently a lot of erinyes pics on the internet agree with me. Do something particularly bad and an erinyes might just pay you a visit; maybe she'll cut you a deal, maybe she'll share wine with you while she figures out a surefire way to goad you into completely dooming yourself, or maybe she'll just chain you up and flog you silly, depending on circumstances. They can get a bit carried away on that whole punishment-and-castigation thing.... And I do still have that customized erinyes with that big, magical, Infernal trumpet waiting in the wings. Give her a chance to jump in somewhere, will you? (Also, it's pronounced "ih-RIN-ee-eez". I looked it up. The singular form's the same as the plural form, too. ) | |

| While I'm on that vein of thought, okay...remember the Greek myth where someone murdered Agamemnon, and Apollo took Agamemnon's son Orestes aside and told him to hunt down and kill Agamemnon's murderer? So it turned out that the person who killed Orestes' Dad was his Mom, Clytemnestra. So Orestes stuck a knife in her and killed her, thus fulfilling his oath to Apollo and avenging his father's death. Meanwhile, down in Hell or Tartarus or the Underworld or whatever, the three Erinyes watched Orestes kill Clytemnestra. They didn't know the whole story; all they saw was a guy stabbing his own mother to death. So the Erinyes said "It's go time", slammed down some Powerade, threw open the gate to Hell, went topside, hunted Orestes down and jumped up his crack bigtime. We're talking about chasing him all over Hell's half-acre, clawing his back to ribbons, sticking torches in his face, flogging him with venomous snakes, spraying lemon juice in his eyes, choking him, choke slamming him through a dozen card tables, throwing his car keys off a cliff, rolling his car into a lava flow, pulling his hair while the other two Erinyes took turns kicking him in the jimmies...that sort of mess. Brutal. Those devil chicks did not play games. (Yeah, don't look at me. I guess everyone pretty much ran around naked back in ancient Greece. Mario and Martino Prada--and fashion industry moguls in general--would go positively loonie-tunes from having absolutely nothing to do if you timewarped them back to yon days of yore. But I digress.) So Apollo finally got the memo which said "Hey, Orestes completed his mission and now the Erinyes are slapping him stupid all over the Mediterranean, come quick!" So Apollo told Athena, "Yo, go clean up that mess." And Athena came down from Olympus and told the Erinyes to back off. And they did. Because nobody tangles with Athena. Nobody. Except for maybe Kratos. After that, I think the Erinyes turned into the Eumenides, or "Goodly Ones". I don't know about you, but I think the whole Eumenides thing was just an act, so they could trick the mortals into thinking that the Erinyes had suddenly become nice, just for the sake of Public Relations and a few more coins in the offering plate. Meanwhile, they were still flying around the planet and kicking sinners' asses by moonlight. Because the Erinyes rocked like that. Also, just like the Gorgons, the Erinyes had something of a snake theme going on...snakes in the hair, snakes crawling around their arms and so on. Apparently the ancient Greeks figured it out: snakes are evil, and women are evil, so combine snakes with women and you get Super Evil. Apologies to Wraith over there; sorry to expose your clandestine wickedness before the eyes of the world like that. Also, someone out there made a little Lego thingie of Orestes and the Erinyes! See? Cute, huh? I just felt like sharing that. Tune in next time when I whip up a bunch of dragon pogs! Small, medium, large and huge; those dragons pretty much never stop growing over the course of their however-many-millenia lifespans, I guess. Speaking of which, why is it that those demons have three or four Huge types of demons, while the devils have none? I guess the devils, being the Lawful Evil sorts that they are, are so efficient at the ancient art of butt-whoop that they'll gladly run up to something that's two or three times their size and punch its lights out. Devils rule. Anyway, dragons. Ta ta! | |

| One day, we'll get back together. One day. Speaking of which, I need to dig up the Experience you guys earned from fighting the pirates aboard the pirate ship; I believe I already factored it into the Party topic, but I want to make sure. Also, I probably shouldn't have done this, but I still have three extra windows with my work-in-progress on each of your prologues, and one of you's headed for a situation where I need a throne and a large table, and another one of you is almost certainly headed towards a confrontation with an enemy spellcaster, so...yeah. Maybe I should have done this after all. As always, if you want to add these to your own Gametables, either right-click and save (to whichever subdirectories you see fit, but I put my chairs in Pogs, my tables/wooden platforms in Overlays, my traps in Overlays and my areas of effect in Overlays too) or, if your Gametable's F5 key works, you can just wait till we link Gametables again and mooch off mine. I almost started making four times the furniture goodies below before I remembered, "Oh, wait...Gametable 2 lets me rotate all the pogs and stuff!" So thanks for saving me some work, Gametable 2. (You know, I never understood the use of the color green to designate acid. Three of the leading acids guaranteed to ruin your day--and your face--are sulfuric acid, nitric acid and perchloric acid. Sulfuric acid's yellow, nitric acid's orange and perchloric acid's clear. Where the blazes did green acid come from? ) (Thank you, college chemistry lab. Also, contrary to the beliefs of the uneducated, hydrochloric acid doesn't do squat to human tissues; you'd pretty much have to bathe in the stuff for, like, half an hour before you really started to feel it. It'll still burn like hell if you get it in your eyes or mucus membranes, though. And if you happen to be some magical creature that's made of metal, all bets are off. Anyway...) | So even though all of my pog work on dragons was undone on the Night of Two Microsoft Windows XP Security Updates (because XP is such a hacker-friendly leaky boat, apparently), I'll be back on top of that project shortly. In the meantime, I was working on that Brief Primer on Actions thread, and I needed an arcane spellcaster to demonstrate one or more of the spellcasting actions. Alas, neither Corwin nor Karnoz nor Sylvea nor any of their henchmen are wizards, sorcerers or anything similar, so I have to leave some of those segments to NPC characters; whether those arcane-magic-wielding NPCs are friend or foe to the PCs is irrelevant. Enter, Gwendolyn Ainsley and Vorog the Embattled. Gwendolyn Ainsley (the outcast bastard half-hag daughter of old, cursed Lord Dorren Ainsley) is easy enough to work with; I already have pogs of her as both Young Gwendolyn Ainsley (as she was when Corwin was alive, just in case he should somehow veer into the swamp which she calls home...which isn't all that far from Corwin and Gwenlyn's old hovel, really...) and Old Gwendolyn Ainsley (as she is in the present timeline, haggy and haggard yet still unnaturally youthful and sustained in her vitality by her mother's green hag blood). But coming to Vorog the Embattled, I realized that I had no liches among my pog collection. So I made some. And so, this post is dedicated to those mighty spellcasters who are so terrified of mortality that they will gladly trade away their humanity (or...elfity, or dwarfity, or whatever...) for undeath and bind their eternal souls into solid objects in a desperate bid to cheat Death forever. Here's to you, liches! Human LichesElf LichDwarf LichNot Sure What This Big-Chinned Freak Is, but He Sure Makes a Neat Lich It makes sense that most liches would be human; humans are among the sentient races with the shortest lifespans, so their concerns about old age and mortality tend to be more present and realized. And though half-orcs and the "lesser" humanoid and goblinoid races have lifespans that are equally short or even shorter, these races seldom possess the great Intelligence or Charisma needed to become powerful spellcasters. Not that it could never be possible, mind you.... (...though the thought of a kobold lich is laughably ridiculous, I admit. On the other hand, that would certainly be a handy hook for intrigue, as it begs the question of how a kobold could possibly survive long enough to become a powerful wizard--and then a lich after that--which might make a kobold lich even scarier than any other type of lich if you think about it hard enough...) Hopefully coming later: Gnome lich, female liches of various races (though I dunno...Human Lich #2 there could be an undead wizardess...), liches of various humanoid races (because a minotaur shaman, an ogre mage or a frost giant sorcerer who sacrificed his own soul for a shot at eternal power might make a pretty snazzy antagonist in the future, eh?) (And GD and I remember one player in our old troupe whose elf got turned into a vampire and then got his ass kicked repeatedly, so I got to feeling way too sorry for him and more or less ended up giving him a "FREE kill one lich and have your lifeforce and independence restored" coupon. I still feel like that was one of my lamest moments in Dungeon Mastery history. Liches are meant to be so much more heinous, formidable and climactic than that.... ) | |

| More products of me screwing around! Yay! I figure that SEAMUS will be back sooner or later, so I got the brilliant idea to make Gametable ships for sea battles and whatnot...and believe me, there will be a big call for them, pretty soon. The ships are obviously meant for a different scale; while I use the "1 square = 5 feet" scale for most of my pogs, these ships follow a "1 square = 50 feet" scale. 50 feet would be just about the length of a sloop or a keelboat, while galleys average about 130' in length...pretty big. Corwin is presently sailing the Woodwitch--which is a sloop, which is more or less a keelboat with a shallow cargo hold and an enclosed captain's quarters at the stern--while the two previously encountered ships in The Devils of Tides--the Saint Alarice and the Devil's Hangman--were both sailing ships (or sailships, for short). So these new pogs and their 50' scale should be handy for those massed ship maneuvers, and we can still switch to the 5' scale when it's time to hook, board and repel boarders. Savvy? Common Boats and ShipsFor those run-of-the-mill merchant vessels and whatnot. Rowboat, lifeboat or any other type of dinghy (If you're riding one of these in the middle of the ocean, chances are pretty good that either A) you recently lost a much bigger seafaring vessel, or B) you're out of your bloody mind. 8'-12' in length, no full keel, no sails...nothing but the hull, two or four oars and--if you're lucky--a comfy place to sit. But let the first big ocean swell hit your dinghy the wrong way and you're shark food. Get to the shallows ASAP, okay?)Keelboat (Contrary to what the name would suggest, a keelboat has no hydrodynamic keel--only the structural keel, or the "spine" of the boat's hull--and thus is not oceanworthy. On the other hand, the keelboat's shallow draft allows it to travel rivers without running aground. An ideal vessel for traders who limit their travel to rivers and coastal waters.)Sloop (A sloop is more or less a keelboat with an elevated deck (and a shallow cargo hold beneath it), an elevated aftdeck or aftcastle--with an enclosed interior beneath suitable as the captain's quarters or an extra cargo hold--and a hydrodynamic keel. It can only travel the deepest rivers due to its keel draft, and it's oceanworthy...barely. Storms spell certain death for sloops and their crews, which is why sloop crews are wise to stay within sight of land regardless of the sloop's seafaring capabilities. Make for the shore the moment those dark clouds start gathering.)Longship (The Norseman's Special, with an elevated deck, shallow cargo hold and full keel. Oceanworthy and stormworthy, but expect to lose a few oarmen to those troublesome storm swells washing over the deck.)Sailship (Nope...no oars. On the other hand, it is oceanworthy, it can weather a storm and it won't instantly capsize the moment you no longer see land. Satisfaction guaranteed. Pirate insurance sold separately...yeah, right. )Warship (A medieval troop transport by any other name)Galley (For when you like your ships big, bulky, spacious and expensive)War Galley (A galley outfitted with a big metal ram on the prow, six weapon platforms--typically armed with ballistas--fore, aft and amidship, and a reinforced aftcastle on the stern, all yours for only 8,000 Gold more. Ballistas included. Ballista bolts sold separately.)War Galley with Light Catapult (...and add 550 Gold on top of all that and you can slap a rotating weapons platform and a light catapult atop the aftcastle, too! Ideal for lobbing rocks, lead or iron shot, burning tar, vials of acid or plague-ridden animal carcasses at enemy ships. The catapult's the fixed kind--not the wheeled kind--since you're not going to be moving the catapult anywhere anyway. Sorry, no heavy catapults; due to their size, bulk and recoil, using heavy catapults aboard ships is unfeasible, and they're simply too big and heavy for the rotating platform. The platform can be stabilized with iron belaying pins before firing the catapult, and it offers a full 360 degrees of rotation in 5-degree increments; try not to hit your own masts and sails, please.)Bright Boats and ShipsIf you're a goody-two-shoes seafarer, you might as well whitewash the blazes out of your ship and broadcast your peaceful and holy intentions. Dinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Dark Boats and ShipsDark ships are sinister-looking ships, and a good set of black sails can complete the ship's air of menace and intimidation. So if you're an evil warlord or a power-mad tyrant, and your ambitions for global conquest lead you to take your campaign to the waves, then these naval vessels are for you! Dinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Pirate Boats and ShipsAny old landlubbing evil warlord or power-mad tyrant can knock a few sinister-looking ships together and send a bunch of soldiers across the ocean. But then there are the sea dogs who give even them cause for fear, sea-hardened men and women who spend most of their lives on the waves, building their predatory livelihoods on the backs of whatever unfortunates they catch. So take that dark, sinister ship, stitch some dread-instilling pirate insignia to the sails and raise those sails whenever it's time to let some fat, low-riding merchant ship's crew know under no uncertain terms that their goose is cooked. No quarter asked, no quarter given. Yarrr! (Fun Pirate Fact: During the Age of Sail, ships carried various flags which could be raised for various simple communications...one for friendly greetings, one for "We need food and/or water" and so on. The Jolly Roger--our time-honored skull-and-crossbones pirate flag--was originally a generic "No Quarter" flag which various ships--pirates or otherwise--during the Age of Sail would raise whenever it was time to engage enemy ships and have a nice naval battle, just as a fair warning to their enemies or victims. But since the pirates were pretty much always on Attack Mode--and, hence, always raising the No Quarter flag--it came to be identified as the universal pirate flag due to repeated use. Because pirates are overly aggressive buttheads like that. )Dinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Colored Boats and ShipsSome people, organizations or nations like to take a few hundred gallons of paint or tinted woodstain and give their ships a splash of color. The Navy of Konegheim paints their ships with a regal blue-and-aqua theme, for example. Naval fleets: now color-coded for your convenience. Red Boats and ShipsDinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Blue Boats and ShipsDinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Green Boats and ShipsDinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Yellow Boats and ShipsDinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Ghost Boats and Ghost Ships...and if you want to toss out a ship and crew that even pirates will dread, make it a ghost ship. Just because you're undead doesn't mean that you can't throw up some badly tattered sails and plow your vessel through the waves by means of some supernatural mobility...because it sure as hell isn't those drafty sails moving your ship around. Dinghy, keelboat, sloop Longship, sailship, warship Galley, war galley, war galley with catapult Also, four new status pogs with a new "nautical" frame! Anchored Aground Taking Water / Sinking Capsized - Spoiler:
How does she look? And remember that I will take requests for customized colors. So if SEAMUS wants to give Corwin's ship red sails, for example, then I add a Flood Fill or two and Corwin's ship gets its own pog. *ahem* And if that doesn't bring SEAMUS racing back here at high speed, nothing will. Come pick up your friggin' boat, man! Anyway, back to the threads I go. I haven't been sleeping too well with all of last week's First Monday jazz, but at least I'm feeling better now. Let's see if I can finally balance Karnoz's checkbook and get his prologue back on track. Ta ta!

| Sorry. Screwing around a little bit longer here.... Because we kind of need a compass overlay pog thingie, that's why. I had to work a few kinks out to get the compass rose and the arrows to line up just right; Gametable gets kind of squirrelly if you create a pog with a non-square area, like 128x192. The pins on those arrows don't match up perfectly with the pin on the compass--especially when you rotate the arrows--but I'll work on that. I also need to go back and create some compass arrows rotated to a 45° angle, since for some reason Gametable's Rotation tool doesn't do the "four corners" (45°, 135°, 225° and 315°), which kind of sucks if you want the wind to blow northeast and exactly northeast. At least the Rotation tool covers the four major compass points and all the "third tier" directions like north-by-northeast, east-by-northeast and so on. I might as well go back and add some 45°-angle ships, while I'm at it. But all of that can wait for later. I've done enough Gametable work for now. Now somebody say something, dagnabbit. | |

| The Empty Gallows? Aww, and I was going to give Corwin the opportunity to relocate the Devil's Hangman and claim it for his own, too. Cool name, though. But we'll have to get him a bigger ship more worthy of the name, because that little sloop he's piloting right now just won't cut it. Maybe a sailship or a longship...I'll even throw in the big drum that you use to keep the oarmen in rhythm with the latter, if Corwin promises to pick up another level of Fighter and use the free Feat for Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Whip). Seriously...well, maybe. Nah, we'll make it a sailship. Unless you really want that longship. Same price and value, crappier sails, but plenty of oars (and plenty of opportunity to work your cruelly enslaved captives like starving dogs, until they either perish from exhaustion or slip their bonds, leap overboard and permit the sharks to release them from their torment and grant them the bittersweet mercy of death, you big meanie you). | |

And Gametable is still an option for me. But like I said - Saturday nights are really all I can do. And even then, there's usually one saturday out of month that I have to hang back late for a Function.
Let me know.
And your skittle fleet rules!

| See, GD? Wraith likes my Skittles ships too! I bet SEAMUS likes them as well. You're the odd man out! I'll think of a clever way to get Karnoz onto one of those brilliant lime green ships, just for that.... Also, Wraith likes my liches, GD. I bet she wants to see them in action, too. Wanna send Karnoz across that one river to fight Vorog the Embattled, even though Vorog's a possible encounter intended for much later in the campaign? Don't worry; he won't kill you. He needs living slaves to supplement his power base and compensate for his "sudden" (in lich years) lack of immortality, so he'll probably just hollow your psyche out, slap a half-dozen Geasa on you and plant a necrotic cyst somewhere in your body so he can snap his fingers and make you curl up in an agony-wracked fetal ball if you start getting too uppity or something. But he won't kill you. C'mon, do it for Wraith. She's been gone two or three weeks and she needs some entertainment. Anyway, I'm going to bed now. But tonight I'll have the lodge all to myself again! All to myself. No guests, no Dub the Security Guard...no one but me. Hurrah! See y'all then! | |

| Because I needed them: Because sometimes you just feel like taking a torch and burning somebody's cottage to the ground, that's why. | |

| So I guess we'll have to organize Corwin's recruiting campaign to suit Robin-Hood-Prince-of-Thieves-style rescues from seaside gibbets everywhere, eh? *continues waving the box of Scooby Snacks in front of GD's nose* | |
